Maintain Your Vision

It has been a pleasure and great privilege to read all of the visions people have for America and their desires for improvement. People do have a lot in common in what they want to see happen in the world.

A lot of local movements a cropping up and we urge you to take time, even if only an hour, to participate. It is truly hard to give everything, but everyone can give something.

That being said, it is also obvious that trade-offs will be made. All of you have a vision for a better future, but it is not clear what we will have to give and when if we are ever going to see it. My advice is to recognize those parts of your visions that are most important to you and not to ever let go of them, first of all. For instance, if your vision is for a completely ecologically sustainable world, do not take a job somewhere that is not ecologically sustainable just because you need the money. If you value equality, do not buy products that you know undermine a particular group of people (especially significantly), even if it is unintentional. If you compromise on what is most important to you, you'll compromise on anything.

Secondly, start off slow. It may seem contradictory based on the urgency of the protests and the tendency of our culture to demand everything now, but if you try to do too much at first, you are liable to overwhelm yourself. And once you are overwhelmed, it is easy to quit, and when you have quit the first time, it is harder to start again.

With that, we all urge you to try your best. Discover what you value most and use what talents, energy, or resources you have to give and support what you believe as key to your vision. In that way, perhaps all of our real visions can come true.
